En esta serie vemos la obsesión de Sakaki con los gatos de la ciudad, la lucha de la niña prodigio Chiyo para conseguir la aceptación de un grupo mucho mayor en edad que ella, la paciencia de Yomi con su —menos lúcida — mejor amiga Tomo, las ideas descabelladas de «Osaka» y la competitividad extrema de Yukari, su profesora, en situaciones como las vacaciones de verano, feriados, pruebas y festivales atléticos de cada año escolar. Aunque se basa principalmente en el cotidiano, esta serie contiene situaciones absurdas con toques de surrealismo, como cuando aparecen los sueños de año nuevo de los personajes. El anime fue transmitido en segmentos de cinco minutos todos los días de la semana, y como una compilación de 25 minutos los fines de semana. Así, existen 130 episodios de cinco minutos que también se pueden ver como 26 episodios de 25 minutos de duración.

L'histoire suit les aventures d'un jeune garçon nommé Sacha dont le but est de devenir un jour Maître Pokémon. Pour cela, il va faire connaissance d'un Pikachu à très mauvais caractère au début, mais qui va vite devenir par la suite son meilleur ami. Sacha va aussi rencontrer d'autres dresseurs avec qui il partagera ses aventures. Lors de son voyage dans plusieurs régions, il va devoir continuer à progresser pour découvrir de nouveaux Pokémon et peut-être les capturer. Et avec ces derniers comme amis, il va aussi devoir affronter des groupes de bandits, surtout la Team Rocket. Mais il va aussi faire face à d'autres personnes malintentionnées. Heureusement, Sacha peut compter sur ses amis pour l'aider. Ensemble et parfois avec d'autres personnages en plus, la grande quête leur réservera bien des surprises...
