Le film AnoHana est un remake de la version animée. Il reprend les mêmes évènements mais du point de Meiko Honma (Menma) et y apporte des révélations et des scènes inédites. Jinta Yadomi, Naruko Anjô, Atsumu Matsuyuki, Chiriko Tsurumi, Tetsudô Hisakawa et Meiko Honma étaient six amis d'enfance passant tout leur temps ensemble. Des années plus tard, la petite bande est séparée depuis longtemps et ne se revoit plus. En effet, Menma a perdu la vie suite à un brusque accident dans une rivière. Jin-tan, devenu hikikomori depuis la mort de sa mère et de son amie, se voit le droit de revoir Menma. En effet, l'âme de sa défunte amie est présente devant lui. Celui-ci étant le seul à pouvoir la voir et lui parler, Jin-tan mettra cette apparition sur le compte d'un choc post-traumatique. Pourtant, le lycéen va tenter de renouer contact avec ses anciens amis pour réaliser le souhait de Menma : partir en paix.
