wave to earth
wave to earth
Based in Seoul, South Korea, 'wave to earth' is a three-member band consisting of singer-songwriter Daniel Kim, drummer Dong Kyu Shin, and bassist John Cha. 'wave to earth' creates indie pop with a lo-fi sound rooted in jazz drumming. Under the motto "All Self-made," they handle all recording, mixing, and mastering themselves, as well as overseeing the artistic direction, including album art, videos, and fashion. After joining the 'Wavy Seoul' label, 'wave to earth' released their first full-length album, "0.1 flaws and all," in April 2023. This album showcases the band's evolving artistry through 14 captivating tracks. Notably, the track 'bad' reached #1 on Spotify's "Viral 50 - Global" chart, highlighting their growing global popularity. In an exciting development, 'wave to earth' embarked on their first world tour, "flaws and all," selling out shows across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In September 2024, 'wave to earth' released their new album, "play with earth! 0.03," which received widespread acclaim from listeners, debuting at #5 on Spotify's Global Top Debut Album chart. Following the album release, they began the "0.03 world tour," selling out all shows in North America. The tour will continue in Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia, solidifying the band’s global influence. Their live performances continue to resonate deeply with fans. The name 'wave to earth' reflects the band's aspiration to "become the new wave" and expand their universe across the world.

Silica Gel
Artist
The band ‘Silica Gel’ consists of 4 members: Kim Hanjoo (keyboard/vocal), Kim Chunchu (guitar/vocal), Kim Geonjay (drums), and Choi Woonghee (bass). The unique psychedelia built on the basis of a colorful spectrum and the live performance of explosive energy have been condensed to become the newest, most courageous, sound-producing band ‘Silica Gel’. Emerging in the indie scene in August 2015 with the EP [Five Perspectives of a Zero Gravity Deer Ingested Again], the band released their regular album [Silica Gel] in October 2016. The album received critical acclaim and earned them three Rookie awards, including ‘Rookie of the Year’ at the Korean Popular Music Awards. Their commitment to “continue making ear-crazy music,” expressed upon receiving these awards, was reaffirmed with [Kyo181], a new comeback announced in 2021. The band’s a little bit of cheeky interview ‘Silica Gel aims for teamplay rather than teamwork’ sounds like a word that best represents the band’s current pursuit, rather than a joke to pass over. The reason may be that the band’s identity is being established by continuing omnidirectional activities based on each member’s exceptional musical ability. If you are curious about the possibility of Silica Gel, the answer can be found in music. It is unheard because no one has ever tried it, therefore it’s supposed to be new because it is unheard, for weird things always bring something new the more you think about it.

sunwoojunga
Artist
sunwoojunga(swja) established her very unique position in Korean pop music scene. First of all, her music is not bound to any genres and music scene. She twists and mixes cliches of various genres such as Rock, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Hip-hop and even EDM. She has the freedom of overcoming and recreating those genres, resulting in creating her own characters. Her music cannot be defined in simple terms as mainstream or indie and even the word ‘experimental’ is not enough to describe her music. These days, “excellent vocal” means powerfully hitting the high notes at the climax and it has been considered as the measure of “great vocals”. sunwoojunga makes us reconsider this stereo-type view of “great vocals”. She mastered her vocal ability ins and outs. Her vocal maximizes the song’s composition and breaks the stereo-type with her free-spirited and non-conforming characteristics. She is proof that the vocal’s dramatic appeal is born from the junction of these. From this, it is not an exaggeration that she is the definition of a music artist who makes you experience the evolution of Korean pop music.

EXO’s album ‘DON’T MESS UP MY TEMPO’ (2018) is their highest charting album on the US Billboard 200, ranking at No. 23. Since their first headlining tour in 2014, EXO has performed over 100 concerts across four tours and participated in multiple joint tours, successfully wrapping up their 5th tour across Asia in 2019. In June 2021, EXO achieved their sixth ‘million-seller’ status with their special album ‘DON’T FIGHT THE FEELING’, which not only topped various global charts, but also topped as No. 1 on iTunes music chart in 87 countries around the world, once again proving their title as the legendary K-pop group.

Jon Z
Jon Z
Jon Z is a rapper from San Juan, Puerto Rico whose music is equally influenced by reggaeton and American hip-hop, particularly trap. With an Eminem-esque high-pitched voice and a quirky style, his music often sounds like a Puerto Rican counterpoint to rappers such as Young Thug and Future. Born Jonathan Resto Quiñone in 1991, he first began uploading freestyles to his YouTube channel in 2014. He performed concerts across Puerto Rico and caught the attention of Boy Wonder, who signed him to Chosen Few Emeralds Entertainment. His debut mixtape, The Game Is About to Change, appeared in 2015. Several singles followed, including "0 Sentimientos," "Mentirte," and "Violeta." Over the next two years, Z made numerous guest appearances on tracks by artists like Frankie Roura, Josh D'Ace, and Mackie while issuing singles of his own like "Nunca Me Amo" and "Pali2." His debut album, JonTrapVolta, arrived in 2017. ~ Paul Simpson

Bryant Myers
Bryant Myers
Bryant Myers is a reggaeton singer, rapper, and producer closely associated with the 21st century generation of Latin trap artists. His nickname is "El Más Chamaquito de la Nueva." Though best known as a collaborator with Farruko, Ñengo Flow, Tempo Kevin Roldan, and Anuel AA, his own singles and videos have garnered millions of plays on social media. His trademark is a deep, raspy-toned, slow vocal style always unadorned by production elements. Myers was born in Loma Alto, Carolina Puerto Rico. He began sampling and making his own singles in 2013 and launched them on social media via his Soundcloud, Instagram, and YouTube accounts. His single "Esclava" put him on the radar with a slew of reggaeton and urban artists, and he participated in a series of collaborations with charting artists. He followed it with "Esclava Remix feat. Anonimus" (his cousin Luis Beauchamp) and Anuel AA Y Almighty. The latter track garnered over a million views on YouTube in less than three months. Followup singles "Tu Me Enamorate" and its remix with Lary Over and Brytiago, as well "De Camino a Marte," did just as well. Myers has continued to issue digital and video singles at a rate of at least one a month since then. In June 2016, he released "Vente Encima ft. Anonimus, Noriel & Riko El Bendecido," and guested on DJ Nelson's "Volverte a Ver" and Noriel's "La Llamada Remix." In July, he was a featured guest on Farruko's hit single "Ella y Yo" along with Almighty and Anuel AA, and "Esclava" was re-released as a digital download. In 2018, Myers issued his debut full-length, La Oscuridad, featuring guests Plan B, Bad Bunny, Farruko, and more. It landed at number six on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart. ~ Thom Jurek

Arcángel
Arcángel
Arcángel is a charting reggaeton and Latin trap singer and rapper who resides in Puerto Rico. He began his career as a member of the duo Arcángel y De la Ghetto in the mid-2000s. Their hits, including "Agresivo," "Sorpresa," "Mi Fanática," and "El Pistolón" (the latter, featuring the reggaeton duo Yaga y Mackie, is the song widely considered the first Latin trap track), registered on both sales and airplay charts, and established his reputation to the degree he was able to embark on a solo career. His trademark cool yet expressive tenor singing voice contrasts a certain melodic sweetness with gritty lyrics in Spanish and English (a fine example is the track "Zum Zum"); as a rapper, his delivery is slow, smooth, yet gritty and expressive (check "Original"). Arcángel is a prolific collaborator on other artists' singles and albums. He is at least as well-known in this role as he is as a solo artist. Along with Bad Bunny, he is one of the most ubiquitous guests on reggaeton and Latin trap recordings. His own songs, albums, and collaborative recordings have landed on no less than 11 international charts. Born Austin Santos on December 23, 1986, in New York City, Arcángel established himself in tandem with De la Ghetto with the song "Ven y Pegate" on the popular Hector el Father-hosted compilation album Sangre Nueva. Throughout 2005 and 2006, Arcángel y De la Ghetto were featured on a variety of reggaeton albums, including Luny Tunes' Mas Flow: Los Benjamins, and were associated with Baby Records, the label of Zion (of the duo Zion & Lennox). Arcángel announced in December 2006 that he was embarking on a solo career and starting a label of his own. In the wake of his announcement, De la Ghetto also embarked on a solo career and made his major-label full-length debut with Masacre Musical (2008). Meanwhile, Arcángel's career started a bit more sporadically. While "Chica Virtual," his guest feature on DJ Nelson's Flow la Discoteka, Vol. 2 (2007) was a minor hit, his planned full-length solo debut, La Maravilla, went unreleased after it was leaked to the Internet in 2008. At the end of the year, Arcángel finally made his solo debut with El Fenómeno (2008), produced by some of reggaeton's top beatmakers, including Luny Tunes, Mambo Kingz, Tainy, and Noriega. The album featured mostly new material, though a handful of songs originally planned for release on La Maravilla, including the hit single "Paque la Pases Bien," were included. The lead single for El Fenómeno, "Por Amar a Ciegas," scored its own chart placement for Arcángel (number 34 at Latin Airplay) and drove the album back into the Top 20 on the Top Latin Albums chart. He also founded Flow Factory, Inc., his own production company, and enlisted his mother as his manager. Despite his chart success, Arcángel didn't rush into another recording. Instead, he toured Europe. He issued the mixtape The Problem Child in April of 2010. Upon returning, he released another mixtape, Optimus A.R.C.A., and began assembling tracks for a follow-up album. While working, he took time to contribute to a pair of the popular El Imperio Nazza compilations. It took until 2013 for Sentimiento, Elegancia y Maldad to appear. Its pre-release single, "Hace Mucho Tiempo" featuring Daddy Yankee and Baby Johnny, did well on airplay and download charts and eventually peaked at 13 on the Tropical Songs chart, while the album hit the number one spot on the Top Latin Albums list. For the next year and a half, Arcángel spent his time collaborating and contributing to other artists' recordings, including Maluma's smash hit Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy. The notion of collaboration, so important in reggaeton, became the motivating factor behind 2015's Los Favoritos. Enlisting DJ Luian as a co-billed conspirator, Arcángel set about recording tracks with his favorite genre artists of two generations, including J Balvin, Maluma, Nicky Jam, Ñejo Flow, Farruko, J Alvarez, and Wisin. There were 20 in all. The single "Tu Cuerpo Me Hace Bien" landed inside the Top Ten of the Latin Rhythm chart and topped the Tropical Songs chart, while the album spent 13 weeks riding the Latin Top 40. For the next three years, Arcángel focused his attention on releasing a slew of singles and videos, with "Rose" (featuring Mambo Kingz, DJ Luian, and BF), "Bien Puta," "Cula en la Clara" (featuring Tali), "Mas Que Ayer" (featuring De la Ghetto), "Zum Zum," and "Original" (featuring Bad Bunny) among them. They all charted. In 2018, he dropped the full-length Ares, which all but abandoned reggaeton and its dembow rhythm in favor of dirty trap beats and contemporary Latin pop. J Balvin was a featured guest on the track "Corte, Porte y Elegancia." The set entered the Latin Albums chart at number five. ~ Jason Birchmeier
