Předčasně zesnulý americký scenárista, režisér a producent John Hughes (1950-2009) se v polovině osmdesátých let prosadil jako tvůrce autorských komedií, v nichž přesně vystihl chování, mluvu, starosti i radosti tehdejších teenagerů. Asi nejlépe se mu to podařilo v dnes už klasické veselohře Volný den Ferrise Buellera (1986), kterou napsal údajně během šesti dnů a která líčí osudy geniálního záškoláka při jedné z jeho eskapád i marný boj ředitele školy Rooneyho přistihnout konečně nezbedníka při podvádění. Dokonale vypointovaný scénář a především přirozené herecké výkony nejen hlavních ale i vedlejších představitelů jsou největšími devizami filmu.
