Durant toute sa scolarité, Tôru Fujisawa est un élève moyen et plutôt dissipé mais il obtient tout de même quelques prix dans les matières artistiques. En 1997, il débute la série qui lui vaudra une renommée internationale :<br/>GTO (<br/>Great Teacher Onizuka), dans laquelle Onizuka devient le professeur le plus anticonformiste du Japon.
