Imagine you're on hour one of a 14 hour flight and you spill coke all over your pants? Your carry on bag has been gate checked to final, all you have is the clothes on your back and whatever you brought in your personal item. Good thing you packed extra pants! Same goes for shirt and even underwear, just try to keep it compact!
