Basada en unas historietas del belga Pierre Culliford (AKA Peyo) y ambientada en la Edad Media. En la aldea de los pitufos todas las casas son hongos o setas. Todos ellos se visten igual: pantalón blanco y gorro frigio blanco, a excepción del Gran Pitufo o Papá Pitufo, que usa un atuendo rojo. Él es el jefe de la aldea, debido a su avanzada edad y a sus conocimientos de magia. El brujo Gargamel y su gato Azrael, intentan siempre y por todos los medios capturar a los pitufos con trampas. Los objetivos son dos: utilizarlos como ingrediente imprescindible para conseguir la transmutación de los metales y su transformación en oro, y preparar con ellos 'sopa de pitufos', un legendario plato exquisito de sabor incomparable. La serie se ramificó en varias películas; la última, que se estrenó en 2008, celebraba el 50º aniversario de los personajes.
