The Smiths fue una banda británica de rock alternativo formada en Mánchester en 1982 por Morrissey (voz) y Johnny Marr (guitarra). También integraban el grupo Andy Rourke (bajo) y Mike Joyce (batería). Son considerados una de las bandas más influyentes de los años 80. Su estilo mezclaba melodías de guitarra jangle pop con letras melancólicas, irónicas y poéticas.
